Careers in Public Health

Are you interested advancing the state of public health in America and beyond? Are you worried that so many Americans are uninsured and thus have limited access to healthcare? Would like to play a part in advancing causes that improve the general health of your fellow citizens? If so, you should look into a career in public health.

Public health officials work in a number of different capacities. The government employs a number of public health workers in its federal regulatory agencies. The Food and Drug administration, along with the Environmental Protection Agency, are two large federal agencies that help keep businesses honest and keep contaminants out of our food and natural resources. Those with public health experience also find administrative jobs within hospitals and healthcare clinics. Many work for research organizations that help guide public policy on health related issues.

If you want a career in public health, you will probably need to earn a graduate degree in the subject. Many public health jobs look for applicants who have done graduate work in the field, and who have a thorough knowledge of a certain aspect of public health policy. Most large research universities have graduate schools of public health. If you want to earn a public health degree, but can't afford to leave your job and go back to school, you should check out public health programs online. Many of these programs have developed strong reputations and can help you earn a degree in less time and for less money than at traditional school.
