Career in X-ray Technician

Are Careers as an X-ray Technician Still in Demand?
Careers as an x-ray technician are indeed in demand. In fact, some hospitals and independent labs report finding it difficult to staff all of their positions for x-ray technicians.

What is Involved in a Careers as an X-ray Technician?
In your career as an x-ray technician you will use radioactive waves to diagnose and treat patients under the request of physicians. You will prepare patients for testing, and at times you may have to administer non-radioactive substances into a patient's blood stream so it can be monitored on x-ray. You will also process films taken during testing, read the films and provide a report to the requesting physician.

What is a Career as an X-ray Technician like?
Those with careers as x-ray technicians are best advised to remain in good physical condition. The job requires long hours on your feet and manipulating heavy x-ray equipment. You will also have to assist patients onto x-ray platforms and help them to alter their positions. At time the lack of mobility of patients will require a certain amount of lifting. The work environment of most x-ray technicians is sterile, well lit, and well equipped. Hours for those working at diagnostic labs and doctors offices will typically be full time (40 hours per week) and will not involve any nights, weekends, or on call hours. Hospital employees, on the other hand can expect shift work, and on call duty.

If you are interested in a career as an x-ray technician, pursue your goal by checking online and at local educational institutions for advice regarding your choices.
