Healthcare managers, especially in large facilities, are often responsible for millions of dollars' worth of facilities and equipment and hundreds of employees.
Entry-Level to CEO Healthcare management positions range from entry-level to chief executive officer. Entry-level positions tend to be as administrative assistants in specialized areas, such as human resources, public affairs, or patient care services. With experience and advanced education you can move into positions with more responsibility. For example, a department manager directs the activities of a specific clinical area, from billing and collection to implementing business strategies.

You will find healthcare managers in a variety of settings, including hospitals, mental health facilities, health insurance organizations, public health departments, physicians' offices, clinics, management consulting firms, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and universities and research facilities.
Education A bachelor's degree is necessary to begin your career in healthcare management. Health services management degrees are available, but degrees in business, nursing or liberal arts are also acceptable for entry-level positions or acceptance to graduate programs. A master's degree is usually required for mid-and senior-level manager positions. Graduate programs are available in public health, health administration or even business or public administration with a concentration in health services management. Programs can include coursework in hospital management, marketing, accounting and budgeting, and healthcare policy and law. Programs may also offer supervised internships, fellowships, or residencies.
