Careers in Healthcare Administration

Do you enjoy working in the healthcare field? Do you wish you had a job with more responsibility? Would you like to substantially increase your yearly salary? If so, you may want to look into a career in healthcare administration.

Healthcare administration is a growing field because of the progression of America's healthcare system. Healthcare costs have risen dramatically over the years, and insurance companies have exerted a lot of influence on hospitals, clinics, and policyholders to keep their claim outlays down. As a result, many healthcare facilities have merged, creating large networks of local healthcare providers. These networks are designed to reduce the duplication of services, and thus cut costs. With larger and more complex healthcare networks comes the need for more healthcare administrators.

Healthcare administrators can have a number of different responsibilities. They can help staff a facility, deal with legal issues, manage a facilities budget, or manage the day-to-day operations of a clinic, among other duties.

If you want a career in healthcare administration, you will probably need a master's degree of some sort. Many healthcare administrators have a Master's of Business Administration, or an MBA. Some universities offer MBA programs specifically geared towards the healthcare industry. Those who become healthcare administrators usually come from either business or science undergraduate backgrounds, but there are many exceptions. If you're looking to change careers, you may want to earn your healthcare administration degree online. Online degree programs are designed to help working professionals balance their jobs and school.
